Siam Niramit

Phuket - favourite holiday destination in Thailand

The real catalogue vacation in Thailand is definitely on Phuket island located in the south-west by the Andaman Sea. We were really curious what it was like over there and that was why we took a ferry from Phi Phi islands to Phuket Town and then by a minivan to Patong. It cost us 350 THB/person (cca 10.20 USD) including the transfer by the minivan directly to the hotel. We could not wait to get there because some people consider Phuket as a nasty poky-hole full of greedy tourists and others simply fall in love with that place and come back often.

Accommodation in Phuket

In Phuket we stayed at Dreams Guesthouse & Hostel Patong for 210 THB/night (cca 6.11 USD) and enjoyed privete Thai Fooddouble room with air-conditioning. It was in the off season and therefore we were able to book it so cheap. Originally we did not even order room with the air-con but the owner was so generous to us that he actually wanted us to use it so we would survive the heat in the room. Famous Patogn beach was in our reach, only 1 km walk down from the hotel. But we also wanted to explore the surroundings so we rented a motorbike from Simon, the hotel owner, for 150 THB/day (cca 4.40 USD). Probably the best motorbike we have rented in the Southeast Asia. It was brand new and really fast, we did not even get stuck in very steep hills.

Phuket Beaches and viewpoints

A hill nearby the beach commands a view of Patong. Drive in direction of Little Jungle and you will appear on amazing spot. Very interesting viewpoint is for sure Big Buddha Phuket but we missed this one because let’s be Phuket Island Viewpointhonest we have had them enough from Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangkok and Ayutthaya already. So we rather enjoyed seaviews and landscapes. Among other famous Phuket Beaches are Karon Beach and Kata beach. One of really fascination views are from Karon View Point. But we enjoyed the most Windmill Viewpoint from where we spotted Yanui Beach and went to swim there later. But it is not all, very breathtaking view offers also Prompthep Cape Lighthouse where we felt like at the end of the world. Ride by ride we travelled south part of Phuket all over but could not swim anymore because of a low tide. Therefore we concentrated on small local food markets and then headed back towards Patong.  Next day we decided to explore north of the island. We discovered Kalim Beach right next to the road. Walked along Kamala Beach. And from Leam Sing View Point we feasted our eyes on Leam Sing Beach. After all we enjoyed swimming at Surin Beach and then returned back to Patong. As you can see there are endless beaches and viewpoints in Phuket.

To Phuket Town for Cultural History

Phuket Town is often overlooked for the beaches the island offers to its visitors. But there are many reasons why you Tits of Phuketshould visit Phuket Town. The city is full of beautiful colorful historical buildings. One of the most spectacular streets is Thalang Road where you can enjoy most of the old buildings and for us it was like being back to Europe for a while. Phuket City is also great for shopping. And we decided to go for a show called Siam Niramit. We paid 1200 THB/person (cca 35 USD) but it was worth it. We had a wonderful evening and after a very long time of backpacking it felt like living a normal life again and not being only on the trip around the world.  🙂

Our wandering and travelling Thailand came to an end on Phuket and we moved slowly towards Malaysia and Penang Peninsula.
